I checked an auction and it showed one Fail, what does that mean?

You must read the comments below the Fail message. There can be many reasons that a legitimate acution would Fail some tests. If a seller is offering an expensive item, over $1500, they may not accept PayPal which would be a failure. This does not necessarily mean the seller is dishonest or a problem seller. You must look at all of the elements and notes in the report that show Fail or Unsure. Some Failures, such as demanding only Western Union payments are enough reason to avoid an auction for that one failure, while other failures may not be important. The report gives you information and you must use your judgement to decide if you want to continue and do business with the seller. A large number of Failures is always a clear sign of concern about a seller.

How do I setup my special bank account in PayPal ?

Question: I setup an account at emigrant direct but I dont know how to use this in PayPal because they ask for an ABA routing number. Where do I find this?

Answer: When you setup your PayPal account and link it to your safe, external bank account as explained in the Scams & Scoundrels book, you will need the account number which is emailed to you and the ABA routing numbers which are:

  • Emigrant Direct 226070319
  • ING Direct 031176110

If you use another online bank, then you will have to find the ABA number on their website or contact support. They should include this information in the welcome email but some do not. They may try to tell you that you do not need it or that their system does not work 'that way' but it does and you do need it. If they give you a hard time just cancel and find a better online banking service.
